About MeowCleeva®

The Story of MeowCleeva®

Some brands are built in boardrooms. MeowCleeva® was born on a t-shirt, discovered in a boutique window, and named after a curl of cigarette smoke.

In 2004 Martha Colón created a character logo for her lingerie and loungewear line Maskara Coterie. The figure — elegant, theatrical, unmistakably her own — appeared on a white crop top with hot pink and black detailing. Patricia Fields, the legendary NYC stylist who dressed Sex and the City, became Martha's very first customer.

Four months later at Lingerie Americas 2005, the Marketing Director from Victoria's Secret visited Martha's booth and placed an order. She had discovered the shirt at Patricia Fields, kept it pinned to her bulletin board and tracked Martha down — with no social media, no Instagram, no digital trail. Pure word of mouth and the power of an unforgettable image. Victoria's Secret asked Martha to develop the character in multiple poses for a potential collaboration with their Sexy Little Things line. That request changed everything.

In 2008 the name arrived. The curl of cigarette smoke reminded her of a cat's tail. The character's silhouette suggested cleavage. And she wanted to keep her own initials — MC. MeowCleeva® was born.

In 2017 Martha launched MeowCleeva® as a standalone fine art brand at New York City holiday markets. The reaction, from the very first day, has always been the same.

"First they smile. Then they say — that's so me."

That moment of joyful recognition is the heartbeat of everything MeowCleeva® stands for. She is not just a character — she is a mirror. A vaudeville performer living in the sleepless city, working undercover as a fancy dog walker, with an unshakeable passion for fashion and furry companions. And she is still growing. The artwork that tells her story is destined to become a book.
